Indoor Cyclo Cross Race
While over at Keith's Friday night, he convinced me to try my first cyclo cross race in a barn the next day. Too many bottles of wine later at midnight, we were stoked.
Showed up fuzzy headed and laughed as I saw the course as I was just thinking how many people will I take out with my lack of cross / 90 degree cornering / dismounting skills. A 1 minute crash course in the parking lot from Keith and I was set.
Overall, with nothing to lose, I was quite happy with the day...being my first time on a cross bike and all.
The gap jump combined with the "beer garden" was hilarious!! Sure turned into heckling all who bailed on that jump.
Great way to end the bike season, all I need now is a Cycle Cross bike.

Lake Louise slackcountry
Great slack country day with Mike Weater. Up Richardson Ridge with a run down the backside. Skied over to Larch chair -hike up to Purple Bowl with beauty turns down. 2o min skin up Wolverine Ridge with another run down to Temple Lodge. Couple guys saw us go up Richardson and decided to follow us.We did not see them until hiking up Purple Bowwhere we saw a slide down front face of Richardsons. At the top of ridge, these guys went down the face and 1st guy got caught and dragged down to the bottom in waist deep snow. Marnie and Mom saw the whole thing from Summit Platter. It was a couple of Americans who had no clue - lucky to be alive. The pics are in reverse - 1st - Purple Bowl with turns behind me 2nd - hiking at top of Purple Bowl, Richardson in shade in background. This is where we noticed the slide
3rd and 4th - Richardsons
Rogers Jan 07
Up to Asulkan Hut with Keith, Phil and Spic. First bluebird days I have ever had at Rogers - usually dumping with zero visibility. 2 nights at the hut with yo yoing below and above for turns. Youngs Peak offered views for 100km, fun turns back down from Peak past the hut down to Mouse Trap - 4,000 foot beauty. Our pit was 6 feet deep, probed down 7 more feet..13 foot snow pack in January!!To top off the whole trip, not another soul to be seen.
Highway 93 & Jasper
May 07 brought a string of 30 degree, sunny days. Up to Jasper for a few days, stayed the night at the Icefileds Hotel on the way. Morning bike on 93 down the "big hill", then back up the beast. Biked from Jasper east on Yellowhead highway and back. The views on both days were as good as it gets, especially around Icefields / Parker Ridge. Wishing we had touring gear around Parkers as there was still walls of snow on the road and plenty of lines up high.
Skins Game 06
2006 summer brought the Skins Game, perfect timing working at the course. Norman, Daly, Garcis, Ames and Nicklaus..as if all these players were here!! Able to get in close with them on the 9th green "driving range", had Nicklaus sign my staff credentials tag. Lucky to see him as I believe that was his 2nd last public golf outing.?
