Seth Kids Crit
Part of the weekends festivities included a Kids Crit ranging in ages from Seth's age to 12 yrs old.
Seth was so excited to take part, saying in the days leading up "I go in bike race" over and over. There must have been at least 40 kids in the 5 & under category, one of the cutest/funniest sights I have ever seen. 2.5 yrs old and in first bike race, awesome!
Cooper and Seth, buddies in first "bike race" together
Done and done
Yesterday's 145 km stage concluded this year's Banff Bike Fest, I am shattered today.
Saturday's morning Time Trial went well as it could have, nothing left at the finish line. Someday will post a strong TT result, perhaps an actual TT bike would help but still??
Saturday evening's Criterium was an effort from the start, non stop sprinting until I faded on lap 26 and got lapped. Scott rode very impressive moving up slowly placing 10th. Aaron Schooler and Tichelaar were 1,2 second year in a row.

At least the guy in front of me looks hurting as well
Eventual Crit winner, ability to suffer much?
After my lackluster performance in the 1A race, put in a solid effort for the team in the 145 km 11 lap race around Tunnel Rd.
Gord got off the front with 5 others where Sean and I spent time at the front trying to keep Gord's break out there. Laid it all out there for the team not caring about my personal results, paid off as Gord sprinted for an impressive 6th place. Reigning Canadian Road Champion Will Routley's pace when he wanted to was a whole different league, such impressive strength.
Overall the club had a very successful weekend in all categories, boys were on podiums everywhere. Congrats especially to Chris and Matt who won and placed 3rd in yesterday's 75km Tunnel Cat 3/4 race.

2 stages down
2 stages down for Banff Bike Fest.
The 1.5 km Prologue Hill Climb landed impressive results for our team. 4 in top 20 with all 7 in top 36. Gord lead team finishing 4th with myself 4 seconds back 10th. Super pumped with 10th place against this field, even more pumped that I shaved 9 seconds from last year!
Part of me having a temporary upgrade to Cat 1 this weekend was foregoing any points I would have for Cat 3 (my usual category). Marnie does not understand why I would not just race Cat 3 in my home town and potentially podium...but competitive person in me decides to take advantage of the opportunity to race Cat 1 in this beauty race.
Sure enough I would have won Cat 3 by 17 seconds!!
Today's 1A Lake Louise race was freakin cold +5 and rain entire race....totally bonked last km finishing mid 40's. Gord rocked out a sick 4th place again, Eric was a champion at the front pulling back break after break last 5 km's.
Time Trial tomorrow morning with Crit at night......

1 week until Banff races
Less than 1 week until what I have been waiting for since last fall.
The nice weather brought out 25-30 guys for Hammernight Thursday. Rolled into Banff where we took part in a 2 lap 'practice' around the Tunnel race course. 8 motorbikes and pace cars and we were off, really cool atmosphere where the pace was supposed to be mellow but you know how that goes. Around Minnewanka then back to Canmore for a 95 km night.
We actually had a selection process for this years race even with 7 guys being allowed. RMCC could easily have 10 members but some guys do not race therefore not in high enough category technically. But the 7 entered are solid - nice range of strengths thrown in there.
1.75 ride last night by myself. Surprise corner-Tunnel-Minnewanka/J Lake-Tunnel. Hard tempo pace with 10 or so 10-15 sec bursts.

Loving life
Fun week with the boys doing various activities in the pleasant weather, Seth is loving his new scooter and bike.
On the bike side of things, just as good.
Thursday Hammernight was fun as ever, 25 odd people with 3 Top Gear guys that came in from Calgary to add some fun to it. One of them commenting after going around Surprise Corner and Tunnel -' you guys are all freaking billy goats out here in the mountains'. :)
Saturday had a beauty 150 km to Moraine Lake and back with Colin, Keith, Phil and Mitch. Moraine Lake road is just crippling, well even the climb up to the turn off for that matter. What's tougher, biking the road or skate skiing it in the winter?
Today (Sunday) rode to Canmore with Marnie and the boys in the Chariot on the Legacy Trail. Love seeing all the different types of people using the trail, especially all the older folks.
Just enjoyed some wine & my special turkey burgers and now officially shattered, legs are asking for some rest.
Congrats to Gord and Sean this weekend racing the Mt. Hood Classic in Oregon. Different ball game down there with that caliber and 180 person field. Saw they placed 28th and 30th in the Crit - nice! Todays stage had 10,000 feet of climbing - yikes! Great for them to receive that intense racing 2 weeks before Banff Fest. I will be laying it out there to benefit them anywhere possible, looking forward!

Seth hikes Tunnel Mtn on own
Went to walk up Tunnel Mtn with the boys and Marn this week. Seth was so excited to go hiking - 'I am going hiking up Tunnel, I am hiker" - too cute! So off he starts with a backpack on that he was so proud to be wearing. Both of us think he will go for a few minutes by himself, no he walks up the entire way up! 2.5 years old and hiking Tunnel Mtn, the kid is going to be nuts.
