2 person 24hrs team next year?

This year was the first time they have included a 2 person category at www.24hoursofadrenalin.com/ in Canmore.

Marnie and I and friends took part in a 5 person Co-Ed team for 4 years, having won and on podium each time while calling it quits 2 yrs ago.

Spoke to Colin the other day who put the idea in me that we should enter next years event in the 2 person catgeory. This year strong man Cory Wallace and Steve Gaffney laid it down nicely winning the $1,500 1st prize - a much better prize than the usual yellow jersey and high five. Interesting the only category with prize $ is the 2 man??

Colin is working on getting a sponsor for our entry and then who knows? Would be epic adventure especially if Cory and friends come back. Good luck Cory in next week's 10 day race in Mongolia!

Sounded like this years 24hrs was a blast, several RMCC team members winning and podium...and Colin's teammate having 'sharting' issues - ha ha.

Colin's x-training for 24 hrs week before race - 1st ascent this summer of Mt.Fay E Face. Just another day off for Colin

Good luck to all in this weekend's Tour de Bowness, wish I could be there.

"Off the couch" Gran Fondo and Little Bow

Signed up for http://www.granfondorockies.ca/ in March excitedly. But after Banff races, realized how much biking takes it's toll on the family. Being I wanted to keep my wife and kids, I literally biked 'hard' only twice (2hrs per) in the next 5 weeks putting on 15 lbs with the thought of forgoing the Fondo race and entry and just enjoying our summer. I did bike with the kids several days / week but still. Feeling quite gross in Whitefish over a # of drinks, decided to enter the Fondo while coordinating it with a family trip to Little Bow - only 45 mins drive from there to Nanton. Steve found a $30 left crank for my bike as well so was first time on the road bike in almost 5 weeks - ouch

Woke up Saturday morning in Banff to fresh snow on the peaks while being able to see your breath, 3 hour drive later arrive to high 20's at Little Bow - same province?

Show up at the start line expecting maybe a few top guys, well not only a few but a whole lot. Trek Red Truck, HR Block and all sorts of boys were there going for the $500 1st prize. Now I was saying to myself 'what was I think going in a 140km race having ridden 4 hrs in the previous 5 weeks'?

Our group in the Elite race consisted of 35 guys, within 20 minutes it was down to 12 after the first set of hills!! I made that 12, rode hard for next 1.5hrs when Dallas and I popped after a savage peppering of attacks on a large hill. Rode the duration with Dallas, Jeff Bolstad and another dude where we split up near finish, I ended up 12th.

Quiet happy considering my fitness and the caliber of riders in the top 12 - half of them just back from a week of racing BC Superweek and being full time riders.  craigclogan.blogspot.com/ took the sprint over 40 year old Ian Auld with Kris Dahl in 3rd - the 3 of them got in a breakway in the attacks when I cracked.

Overall one of the funnest, hardest days on the bike. The terrain was as good as it gets - hills after hills and repeat. It's too bad there were no fellow RMCC members there - sure missed out. Congrats to Sean Taylor with www.bicyclecafe.com/ for 8th place and $185.

45 mins drive later I was back at the lake in cooking weather, 5 mins after arriving down at the beach with a beer - perfect. Mike had his boat out so good times on that as well

Whitefish

Back from a 3 night stay with our friend Marc in Whitefish, man do we love it down there! Bluebird with mid 30's temps definitely helped set the scene. Add in $5 6 packs of Bud Light lime for the hot days, $5.15 breakfasts at out of town Diners and a warm lake to jump into and all is perfect.

Snuck in 18 holes with Marc. $10 for a 6 pack at the clubhouse where they give you a garbage bag full of ice to put the beers in, hilarious. One of the most entertaining rounds of my life, 65 yr old boom boom Bob and 'shanks' Tony were perfect guys to get paired up with, casual atmosphere led to a 3 over par - nice 1st round of the year. Sure miss golf, especially how mentally challenging the silly sport is - no other sport like it for that duration of time being focused.

Legacy Trail and Tunnel Mtn

Fantastic ride on the Legacy Trail with the boys this morning. Had to pick up a form in Canmore so decided to ride out and pick it up. Steady winds out and back, good times.

Beauty views!

This afternoon we walked up Tunnel after Marn finished work, Seth was too much 'running up'

Rory has started to hold onto the couch standing with our help, he will be crawling and walking before we know it.

Good luck to everyone in Mountain Bike Nationals this weekend in Canmore, bring home the $. We are off to Whitefish to visit our friend Marc - excited to play some golf, chill at the lake and drink cheap booze.

1st Mountain bike of the year

Keith and I headed out on the mtn bikes today, my first ride on the trails this year. Little kids out there lovin it!

2.25 riding time around the Airport, Johnson Lake and Tunnel.

What an enormous weekend for bike racing around Alberta and B.C. Congrats to RMCC's Eric for taking the Elite in the Stampede Road Race with Scott 2nd in Master B, Matt fastest time in the Gran Fondo Highwood Pass and to mad man Jasperite www.corywallace.com for taking 4th in the 7 day BC Bike Race solo category....wish I could have taken part in one of the races. BC Superweek and Gran Fondo Okanogan in place as well.

Steve came over to assist with giving my mtn bike some love and check my road bike crank, unfortunately it's done :(

Sunny warm days this week, nice routine with the boys where they are napping in the Chariot every afternoon while biking. Up Surprise corner and around Tunnel to Rocky Resort and then 180 back has been the route. Stops at Cascade ponds for a dip tops it off.

Little Bow and the livin's easy

Spent Canada day long weekend down at Little Bow, beauty hot bluebird days. Nana took Seth for 2 nights before we went down, our house was sure quiet without him.

Good times tubing on Digger's boat, nana and gramp's sailboat and drinks starting at noon.

Rory starting early swinging the bat

Seth goggles for the weekend, did not take them off

Enjoying the evening sun

Today in Banff was one of the hottest of the summer. Biked with the boys out to Johnston Lake to meet Copper and KB, damm a good grind pulling them.

Looking for cranks for my road bike as did not mention in previous posts that upon finishing the Banff Crit noticed my crank arm was very loose - ended up being stripped. HUGE cheers to Kucey at Soul http://soulskiandbike.com/ for lending me a Giant for Sunday's road race. In the meantime the bike will keep collecting dust hanging in the garage.

Excited to chill out and mountain bike for the duration of the summer with friends.
